Shijou-geijutsu (Art on a magazine)

The concept of shijou-geijutsu was invented by Tenmyouya in 2000, and refers to works published monthly in magazines such as Burst, D.D.D., Geton!, Tattoo Burst, Bien or Sense.

The concept of shijou-geijutsu is an ironical take on the exhibition format of “white cubes” in museums functioning as authorities (or graveyards, considering the collections kept there) for artworks, while not really intending to welter in capitalism. Furthermore, it is an attempt to introduce relativization to the conservative art system with its highly self-deceiving sectionalistic methods and superficial interpretation, discussing art and illustration with different attributes depending on the format of presentation.
