Roji Sera project

Roji Sera made his debut in 2017. He creates works by using Marcel Duchamp's readymade technique to fuse and reconstruct Western and Japanese cultures, quoting forms from Japanese anime and manga. However, the name "Roji Sera" itself is actually a reference to "Rose Sélavy," a pseudonym used by Duchamp. It was also a reference to Serada Jirōsaburō Motonobu, who was believed to be a doppelgänger of Tokugawa Ieyasu. These elements suggested that the name was fabricated. In reality, Roji Sera was another alias for me, Hisashi Tenmyouya. In an interview published in an art magazine on March 26, 2024, I revealed my true identity for the first time. It was an experimental project where I disguised myself as a novice artist and continued my activities while concealing my true identity. In Japan, there is an aesthetic called "yatsushi" which involves transforming foreign cultures into contemporary expressions. I applied this idea not only at the level of my artworks but also to my own identity as an artist.

世良郎二プロジェクト

世良郎二は2017年にデビュー。日本のアニメやマンガ、ゲームなどから引用した造形物を、マルセル・デュシャンのレディメイド的手法により、西洋と日本の文化を融合、再構築した作品を制作している。しかし、実は世良郎二という名前自体がデュシャンが変名として用いたローズ・セラヴィ、あるいは徳川家康の影武者とされる世良田二郎三郎元信からの引用であり、フェイクであることを示唆していた。実際、世良郎二は私、天明屋尚の別名義であった（2024年3月26日発売の美術雑誌「ExtrART file.40」内のインタビュー上で初めて正体を暴露）。新人作家に偽装し正体を隠して活動を続ける実験的なプロジェクトであり、異文化を当世風に変容して表現する日本の「やつし」の美意識を作品レベルだけでなく、作家そのものにも援用したコンセプチュアル・アートであった。
